CHALLENGE
The Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology (FKIT) faced the challenge of inadequate and technologically outdated research infrastructure. This hindered the execution of scientific and applied research, as well as collaboration with the business sector—a key driver for the development of new technologies. Specifically, the issue manifested on several levels: limited capacity to develop new products and technologies, an inability for FKIT to position itself as a relevant partner to the industry, and an inability to reach its full potential for generating high-quality scientific outcomes. It was determined that investing in the renovation of laboratory infrastructure, alongside the procurement of 10 units of modern scientific equipment and 6 units of laboratory furniture, would significantly strengthen the Faculty’s capacity to conduct market-oriented research and establish collaborative models with the business sector through joint research projects.
SOLUTION
The collaboration between Apsolon and FKIT began during the development phase of the project concept and continued through the ongoing, comprehensive support provided by Apsolon’s experts throughout the entire preparation and implementation process. This included support in project management, the execution of public procurement procedures, and communication and reporting to the relevant authorities. Given the short implementation period of only six months and the complexity of public procurement procedures, special attention was paid to the timely coordination of activities and risk management. The demanding procurement processes involved the acquisition of scientific equipment with an estimated value of 1.55 million euros, as well as laboratory furniture with an estimated value of 147,000.00 euros. Through administrative support and the timely management of contract amendments, the budget and resources were aligned with actual needs, thereby relieving the client of operational burdens.
RESULT
Ultimately, a project with a total value of 2,198,324.26 euros, funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), was successfully prepared and implemented. In doing so, the Faculty secured full funding and state-of-the-art scientific equipment, significantly strengthening its research and teaching capacities.
The collaboration between Apsolon and FKIT continues into the post-implementation reporting phase.
